This is a very simple scene from the Appalachians, but I think it captures the peaceful beauty of fall quite well. A small road winding through the mountains and an old mailbox, weathered from time and the elements. There is nothing like the smell and the feel of the Appalachians in the fall.

I got up at 4:15 AM for this photo and it was so worth it. I was recently in Palm Springs to present View Finders to all of the national PBS stations and it was an absolutely life-changing week for me. 2024 has some major things coming and it is almost surreal how it is all playing out. While I spent most of the week attending sessions and networking with hosts and producers from all sorts of PBS shows, I was able to escape a few mornings to take some photos. Joshua Tree National Park was not too far from the hotel, but for me to get to this cactus garden it was almost an hour and a half in the car. It was pitch black as I drove through the park and arrived at this location, and then I had to scramble to find a composition since I have never been to this spot before. This was one of the images I got, and I love the way the sun lights up the needles of all of the cacti. It was truly stunning and well worth the drive.

Some sunrises are just a little bit different. I spent some time with family up near Clayton recently, and my dad and I went out for a sunrise photoshoot. I was greeted with some really beautiful light, fog, and just a truly beautiful setting over the mountains. It was a moving experience, and I came away with a lot of different images. This is one of them, and I really like the way it turned out. The mountains in the fall are just so special, and what a great memory it was for me.

This is one of the images from the new View Finders episode that aired this past weekend. Paul and I had a fantastic hike to the top of Black Balsam Knob off of the Blue Ridge Parkway, and we were treated to a truly memorable sunset. Definitely one of those hikes I will remember for the rest of my life, and I am glad we were able to include it in the show. Hope you are all doing well and have a great week!

After months of production and filming, the next episodes of View Finders are finally here! Tune in tonight for the premiere of the fall episodes, which should certainly motivate you to get out and see some beauty with this great weather we are about to have. We spent a lot of time up at the Blue Ridge Parkway and I think you all will really enjoy the footage (and photos) we were able to capture during our time there. BIG news everyone! View Finders has been accepted

BIG news everyone! View Finders has been accepted for national distribution through APT, which provides some of the biggest PBS programs that people associate with the channel (think Bob Ross and Rick Steves). What this means is that in 2024, View Finders should start popping up in markets across the United States, which is a truly amazing opportunity to grow our audience and showcase our love of photography to a much larger audience. I am very excited about what might come, but none of it would be possible without our wonderful audience. So thank you for watching and supporting us, and a huge thank you to @pauldaniel5010 @house_of_burnett @jmcartisticphotography for all of the work they have invested into making the show a success.

This is one of the very first photos I took while filming View Finders; it’s of a meteor shower over the iconic Dungeness Ruins on Cumberland Island. Jason and I were there filming the first episode, and at the time I had no idea how complicated it was to produce a show for broadcast television. Fast forward several years and the show has been nominated for an Emmy award, more episodes for the second season are about to air, and now the show will be available nationally. In November I will go spend several days in California, presenting the show to programmers from all across the United States. And I might take a few photos while I am out there. 😁

In just over a week, new episodes of View Finders

In just over a week, new episodes of View Finders will premiere on Georgia PBS (and nationally on the PBS app) and we are very excited about it! Lots of beautiful new locations will be featured, along with new music and new photos! I am very excited for them to air, and right now you can catch the older episodes airing on Thursdays, Fridays, and Saturdays. It is so cool seeing all of the Season 1 and Season 2 episodes airing so frequently, as it helps our audience grow larger and larger. A big thanks to ALL of you for your continued support.

I am very fortunate to have a lot of farmland just

I am very fortunate to have a lot of farmland just a mile from my house, and so I constantly challenge myself to find a new composition that I haven’t used before. I was able to do just that one peaceful morning last week. The sunrise lit the clouds with some beautiful pink hues, and there was just enough fog to set a very calming mood to the bales of hay piled high in this barn. I have some exciting new projects that I will announce soon, but for now I will just leave this image with you all and extend gratitude to each and every one of you for your many years of support. I hope you are all doing well.

@pauldaniel5010 , @house_of_burnett and I have been super busy producing more episodes for View Finders and we can’t wait for you to see them. We have lots of new locations that will be featured in the second half of season 2, and the new ones will premiere at the beginning of October. Right now, most of season 1 and the first half of season 2 are being replayed on Georgia PBS on Friday nights, Saturday mornings, and Sunday mornings. Also, the show is currently being considered for national distribution, which would be really huge if it happens. I will keep you all updated! In the meantime, here is just a hint of what we have coming in October. It has been a tremendous amount of work, but it is truly a labor of love for us and we are looking forward to sharing these new episodes with you!

I have been doing a lot of video work lately and so I haven’t had as much time to go out and just take photos for myself. Last night the sky was setting up nicely and I just had a feeling it was going to be a pretty memorable sunset. That feeling proved to be correct, because I was just in time to get to one of my favorite spots and capture this image. I have photographed this tree before but not from this angle. It all came together really nicely, and it was very peaceful standing in the middle of that field and watching the sky put on a vivid show of color.

I haven’t posted a cow in a little while, so it is time to take care of that! This girl was enjoying her evening meal when I positioned the setting sun right behind her. She stopped chewing long enough to stare at me and wonder exactly what I was doing, and I was able to capture this image. I’m very excited to be working with TrovaTrip to host a photography workshop sometime next summer. The best part is that YOU all will help decide our destination! Italy? Portugal? Greece? Patagonia? Where do you want to go and take incredible photos and have a travel experience that you will never forget? I will host the photography workshop and we will have a local guide who takes us to the best locations and hidden gems. I took my boys camping over the weekend and we had

I took my boys camping over the weekend and we had an amazing time just relaxing in nature and sleeping under the stars. There was no cell service so there were no screens or distractions, just a lot of beauty and some cold water to help with the heat. After making my oldest his 4th smore of the evening, I looked up in the sky and noticed a touch of color. I had brought my gear (just in case!) and so I put my drone up in the air. When I got above the trees, I saw this scene…perhaps one of the prettiest mountain sunsets I have ever witnessed. I took a lot of photos, but I really like how this one has some wispy fog in it. Proof that sometimes in life, really amazing and memorable things can happen when you least expect them. I hope you enjoy this image, and I hope you all have a great week!

This is probably not the typical photo you would find when you look at images of Gulf Shores, Alabama, but you know I’m a sucker for a tree. I was down there for work last fall and saw this lone tree on a hill (yes there are a few of those in Gulf Shores) and marked it on my app. When I was leaving to head home I drove back to this spot, and I was SUPER lucky to find the moon behind it. I used my telephoto to create a simple composition and a very minimalist photo, but I like how it came out.

I spotted this passing sailboat from our balcony the other morning and I liked the way it stood out against the otherwise empty gulf. I layered two images together to create this image so that I could smooth out the surface of the water and give it a very minimalist, dreamy look. I hope you all have a wonderful and safe July 4th!
